South Korean police begin investigating Telegram crimes

South Korean authorities have opened a preliminary investigation into the messenger Telegram for complicity in sex crimes using deepfake technology. Woo Jong-soo, head of South Korea's National Bureau of Investigation, revealed that police launched an internal investigation into Telegram before officially registering an investigation. He added that South Korea was the first to open preliminary investigations after France. South Korean police plan to work with French authorities and international investigators to find ways to investigate Telegram. This is the first time that South Korean police have investigated Telegram. The move follows South Korea's crackdown on online sex crimes. Telegram is the third most popular messaging service in South Korea, utilized by approximately 5% of the country's population.
