Telegram said it is fully compliant with EU rules on digital services and that its content monitoring practices are in line with “industry standards.” The statement came after Telegram CEO Pavel Durov was arrested at an airport in France. Durov’s arrest follows a criminal complaint that the platform’s regulatory practices are inadequate by French authorities. Telegram called the platform’s or its owner’s claim of responsibility for the abuses “ridiculous.” The Russian embassy in France has called for clarification on the reasons for the arrest and the protection of Durov’s rights.
