Telegram Could Be Banned in Indonesia Due to Illegal Content

According to local reports, Indonesia, which has one of the largest Telegram user communities in the world, is considering banning the messaging service due to insufficient monitoring of illegal content. Indonesian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Budi Arie Setiadi revealed that authorities are considering blocking Telegram. The main concern is the spread of illegal content, including the promotion of online gambling and the posting of pornographic images and videos. The possible ban of the Bigo Live program was also discussed. The minister explained that both platforms have committed to improving content monitoring, but have not yet taken effective measures. He warned that further evidence of illegal content distribution would lead to a complete ban on the platforms. Indonesia is the third largest country in terms of Telegram usage with over 27 million downloads.
