Polygon experienced a security breach today in which hackers took control of the Discord community channel for approximately three hours. The breach that allowed fraudsters to enter the channel and attack users has since been patched. Mudit Gupta, Paligan’s Chief Information Security Officer, confirmed that the team has regained full control of the Discord server and removed the changes made by the hacker. The fraudsters posted malicious links posing as official support. One user reported losing $150,000 worth of Ethereum (ETH). The attack raised questions about Paligan’s security measures. The timing of the breach was a concern for Polygon as it coincided with an ongoing network upgrade. Hacking Discord channels has become a growing trend among cybercriminals.
