Pavel Durov, CEO of messaging service Telegram, has been formally indicted by a judge for his role in spreading child sexual abuse and other illegal activities on the messaging program. French prosecutors accuse Durov of obstructing investigations and refusing to comply with authorities’ requests. Despite Telegram’s claims that it adheres to European laws, the allegations show that the platform is failing to take action against harmful content. The court also ordered Durov to pay €5 million bail and banned him from leaving France. He remains under judicial supervision and must report to police twice a week.
